The Scottish Fold, or Highland Fold as it is known to some organizations, is easily recognized by its small folded ears. Just like a dog, when the cat hears something the ears perk up, but fold back down again. This folding begins to happen when the kitten is about 3 weeks old. Originally bred all white, today’s Scottish Fold comes in many colors and patterns and there is a short haired and long haired version as well. As its name implies, it originated in Scotland. America did not see its first Scottish Fold until 1970 when three were sent to the Carnivore Genetics Research Center in Massachusetts. This medium sized cat is loving and affectionate and from all reports, very trainable.
