The Cougar is also known as the Mountain Lion, or Puma, Catamount or Panther, depending on where it is. This large cat has the largest range of any of the large mammals which extends from the Yukon, in Canada to South America. While more visible on the western coast of the US, the Cougar used to range nation wide, but it was hunted heavily in the east and is rarely seen there now. This large shy cat is a carnivore and prefers elk and deer as a meal, but will settle for cows and horses when necessary.
