This breed is a working dog, a true hunter; it’s not the breed for everyone. They were designed to chase and hold small prey like fox, badger, and rat above or below ground until the hunter could arrive. Many Jack Russell Terriers have appeared on TV and the movies. The USA the most well known Jack Russell char actor is Eddie from the hit TV show Frasier which was actually played by two dogs. His char actor received more fan mail than any of the other actors. Those two same dogs also played the star roll in the movie Hotel for Dogs. The AKC recognized this breed in the Terrier Group in 1997. The ideal size ranges from 13 to 14 inches at the withers and a weight of 13 – 17 pounds. Their coat is primarily white with black or brown spots and can be smooth or rough.
