The Sealyham Terrier originated in Wales and was named after the Sealy Ham Haverfordwest estate of Captain John Edwards who created this breed to hunt badger, fox and otter. The coat of the Sealyham is white with slight markings of lemon or tan being acceptable. Their coloring was intentional so while digging after their pray, they could be distinguished from what they were hunting. This coat does require brushing and combing at least twice a week to remove mats and trimming is required each month to keep their coats looking correct. Alfred Hitchcock owned three Sealyham Terriers, two of which can be seen at the beginning of his movie “The Birds”. The AKC recognized this breed in 1911. Ideal size should be 10 inches tall at the withers and never go over 12 inches and approximate weight is 24 pounds.
