The Staffordshire Bull Terrier originated in England around the 19th century when coal miners in Staffordshire England wanted a small fast dog. It is believed they cross bred a Bulldog with a small local terrier similar to the Manchester Terrier. This breed has a short, easy to maintain coat which can be any of six color varieties; solid red, fawn, white, black, blue or brindle. No matter who’s description you are reading, about this breed, one phrase continues to pop up “stable and reliable”. In spite of the bad press some breeds get, this breed is naturally sweet tempered and it’s only fault is it’s willing to please it’s owner, even if the owner doesn’t have the dog’s best interest in mind. The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is one of only two breeds, from over 190, recognized by the UK Kennel club to be called suitable with children. The AKC recognized this breed in the Terrier Group in 1975. Average size of this breed should be 24 to 40 lbs and 11 to 17 inches tall at the withers.
