The Pembroke Welsh Corgi is an ancient breed, developed in Wales as an all purpose farm dog, it is most certainly a distant relative of the Schipperkes, Keeshond, Pomeranian Samoyed, Chow, Norwegian Elkhound and Finnish Spitz. Pembrokes are very brave, affectionate, agreeable, and family oriented. They have a short tail and their coat can range in color from red, sable, fawn, black and tan with or without white markings. The Pembroke Corgi is an entirely different breed than the Cardigan Corgi and is not just a variation. A true dwarf breed, this breed has a weather resistant double coat that needs to be brushed regularly. The AKC recognized the breed in 1934 in the Herding Group and they range in size from 10 to 12 inches tall at the withers.
